"Sedona Times" #285

Here is another Sedona painting, I like how the juniper leads my eye to the rockstar of the painting, those beautiful rocks.
I am heading up to the canyon today.  I won't have time to paint, plein air, because we are playing tour guild for some friends, but my camera and sketch book will be very active.

"Marshland Sunrise" #284

When I was in Chico, Ca last Thanksgiving I was intrigued by all the rice fields near Sacramento. I decided to create a painting that depicted water and rice reeds with some distant hills.  I used the orange and purple hues to give the painting a sun rise look.  It turned out very dramatic.  This painting will be up for auction at my online gallery, dailypaintworks.com

"The North Face" #282

I painted this one a week or so ago.  I have been planning our epic summer RV trip and one of our first stops is Yosemite NP.  So to get a jumpstart on my summer painting, I have decided to start painting some of the places we will be visiting.  Painting from photos isn't the best but it is pretty comfortable painting in my studio.  One can only image how cold and windy it might be trying to paint North Face from life.  I guess I'll find out this summer.  This painting will be up for auction at my online gallery, Dailypaintworks.com.

#281 "End of day"

Well I feel like I have dropped off the planet and abandoned my blog...  But just like that I am back.  Speaking of backs, my back has been messed up for the past five week.  I have two bulging discs from golf.  Its been very depressing.  I am going in today for an epidural to receive some of the swelling and help with the pain.
I have been painting some, just not posting.  I just photographed seven freshly pained pieces.  They will be up in the coming days.
On another note my mother is visiting us here in Scottsdale.  It will be her first visit, we are all excited.  I didn't think this day would ever come. What do you know....
This oil sketch will be up for auction at my online gallery, dailypaintworks.com..

"17 Mile Drive" #280

I painted this painting from an old photograph I came across from my time at Robert  Louis Stevenson in Pebble Beach, CA.  I think this photo was taken in Pacific Grove, the cutest little town just outside the forest.  When my wife saw this painting, she thought we could move there one day.  But I think it would be too hard for me to leave the 330 days of sunshine in Scottsdale.  Hopefully we can spend a few days there this summer on our RV adventure.

"Wooded Stream" #279

Here is a little painting I did earlier this week.  I love painting backlit trees with dappling light.  The stream has some nice reflections.  I don't know what type of trees these are but I love the way this painting turned out.  This painting will be up for auction at my online gallery, dailypaintworks.com

"California Coastline" #278

I love the coastal cliffs of California.  They are so dramatic and colorful.  Unfortunately the photo I took of this painting looks weird.  I haven't found a good way to copy my paintings and sometimes the uploading changes the character of the image.  So keep in mind the original will always look better than the copy.
Back to the subject of the painting, these cliffs are from the Santa Barbara area.  This summer we are planning a epic RV trip of the western US.  I think one of the highlights will be driving and painting the coast.  I think painting in Oregon will be the best, we'll see.
